Jose Mourinho: United Must Spend To Rejoin Elite Status

Oct 24, 2018 7:55 AM

Jose Mourinho has called upon Manchester United to spend money on transfers if they want to rejoin the elite clubs of Europe.

United lost to Juventus 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Mourinho spent £68 million to sign three players but was unable to bring in another center back.

"To go to the Juventus level? Barcelona level? Real Madrid level? How can you reach that level? Manchester City level? How can you reach this level?" he pondered.

"Juventus is champions for seven years, I think seven years in a row," Mourinho told a news conference. "Two Champions League finals in the last four or five years and not happy with what they have.

"They want more, they want more. They had [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Mario] Mandzukic, [Paulo] Dybala, they want more. They want Ronaldo. They had [Andrea] Barzagli, [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Danieli] Rugani, they are not happy, they want more. They want Bonucci and they go for the best players in the world.

"So a big, big club with a big past, but with also a big desire to have a big future and everything they put there to try to win, I don't say the Champions League, I think to win the treble. That's what they want because normally they win at home."

Mauricio Pochettino Calls On Spurs To Sign Players In January Window

Oct 20, 2018 3:11 PM

Mauricio Pochettino is calling for Tottenham Hotspur to make several signings in January.

Spurs didn't add a single player during the summer window.

"In football you always need to think you can improve, and you need to try to improve your squad.

"I've tried to explain before what happened in the summer, the circumstances. But if you say to me we were so clever and are geniuses because we didn't sign [anyone], and now after nine games it's the best ever start in the Premier League, I'm not going to be the kind of person to say: 'Yes, we are geniuses.'

"We couldn't sign for different circumstances, but we wanted to sign. I think it's maybe a coincidence, or we worked a lot, or because we're clever, but to be honest always you try to sign.

"Now January will come and we're going to try to sign. I think it's not only us -- all the clubs and managers want to sign players, must refresh the squad.

"We need to try again in January or the summer if we want to move on the team and the club."

Oct 15, 2018 3:10 PM

Romelu Lukaku admitted he's open to a move to Italy in the future.

Lukaku is in his second season with Manchester United following his £75 million move from Everton.

"Why not? I hope so," Lukaku told La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked if he would like to play in Italy.

United will host Juventus next week in the Champions League.

"They [Juventus] have a big project and they never stop," Lukaku said.

"Each year, they look to get better. Without doubt they are one of the two or three best sides. They've got a great coach on the bench and extraordinary players all over the field.

"Cristiano is their best player, but look out for the others: [Paulo] Dybala is already really good and he's getting better, while I love Douglas Costa.

"It's a tough group, but United want to finish top of it."

Sterling is in the final two seasons of his deal with City and there are no signs of an extension being agreed to yet.

Real Madrid has yet to formally approach City on a transfer for Sterling.

Sterling signed a five-year deal following his £49 million move from Liverpool in July 2015.

Jose Mourinho Seeking Major Spending In January

Oct 8, 2018 8:33 PM

Jose Mourinho is seeking a major spending spree from Manchester United in January.

Mourinho has interest in Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan and Alessio Romagnoli of AC Milan.

Privately, United have brushed off talk of appointing former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane as Mourinho's replacement.

Mourinho was expecting to spend in the region of £100 million ahead of the campaign as he looked to build on United's second-placed finish last season. Mourinho instead spent £68 million while being unable to sign a central defender.

Eden Hazard Torn Between Chelsea, Real Madrid

Oct 8, 2018 8:29 PM

Eden Hazard revealed he is torn between signing a contract extension with Chelsea and pursuing his dream of playing for Real Madrid.

Hazard has less than two seasons remaining on his deal.

Hazard has made it clear he is happy at Chelsea, who hope to secure him on new terms worth around £300,000 a week. Hazard is determined not to follow the same path as Thibaut Courtois.

“I don’t want that,” Hazard said. “I want what’s good for me, but I want what’s good for the club because the club has given me everything. I don’t want to say: ‘Yes, I am signing a new contract’ and then in the end I don’t end up signing. So I will see. Sometimes in my head, I wake up in the morning and think I want to go. Sometimes I think I want to stay. It is a hard decision. It is my future. I am 27 and I will turn 28 in January.”

Hazard agreed he only has one big move left.

“That’s why I spoke after the World Cup and I said that I think it is time to change because I played a great World Cup,” he said. “I am really in the game, I am playing good football at the moment. Real Madrid is the best club in the world. I don’t want to lie today. It is my dream since I was a kid. I was dreaming about this club. We will see. I don’t want to talk about this every day. I don’t have time but we will talk about my future soon. I think so.”

Reports in Spain have suggested that Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar remains Madrid’s favoured choice to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, which could force Hazard to change his stance.

Pep Guardiola Rules Out Report Of City Buying Kylian Mbappe

Oct 2, 2018 8:57 AM

Pep Guardiola ruled out any chance of Manchester City buying Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

There have been reports of a potential £200 million transfer for Mbappe due to PSG's Financial Fair Play issues.

"That is not going to happen," Guardiola told a news conference ahead of City's Champions League clash with German side Hoffenheim. "Sometimes I don't understand where that news comes from.

"Man City doesn't have or is going to spend the money that Mbappe and PSG deserve. PSG is not going to sell this kind of player to any other sort of club in the next years, I guess. So that is not going to happen. Mbappe is not going to come here and we are not going to swap Raheem [Sterling] or any other top player that we have.

"People should be more respectful of PSG, respectful of Manchester City, for the players from PSG, for the players from Man City, they should have more respect.

"Of course I am the second person to know exactly which players are targets, which players I want to sell or something like that. But it is what it is."

Oct 1, 2018 8:54 AM

The board of Barcelona are divided over whether to pursue a transfer for Paul Pogba in January, but they are confident they have the financial resources to do so should they choose.

Pogba is one of three targets, along with Paris Saint-Germain's Adrien Rabiot and Ajax's Frenkie de Jong, to have been discussed by Barca as they look to strengthen in the middle of the park.

Pogba would be the most expensive player of the trio to acquire.
